To the people that think it was a waste: Don't worry. It was a ~12GB hard drive, which was standard circa 1998. We, as tech support, destroy hard drives before we throw them out, just in case there was sensitive data.

My brain runs ext5 and runs on s basic unix format with most standard unix utilities installed, I think I need to run a disk check but it tells me I need to unmount my brain before I do it or otherwise I may cause unrepairable damage. What should I do?

@TheInuYashaDogEars If you have a spare brain available, I suggest you clone your own brain onto it, using the rsync utility. You can then mount and boot to the second brain, so you can and run a disk check on the first. Once complete, boot back to your first brain, and be sure to wipe the second brain, as it may remember personal information, such as your social security number or PIN numbers.
