@dragonjw1 cause I do my research... Lol. Just a tip anyway. Lets please forget the reason why im traumatized about trying to light a fire with flint, due to the audience we had that one time. Yeah I have phobs... Lmao

@dragonjw I just noticed you also strike forward against the flint, thus you hit the tender. Try pulling the flint back against the striker, while you hold the striker still.

How come you make almost no movement with your hand, yet you get such bright sparks?
I just got my flint and I'm learning how to use it.

my technique has yet to fail me, you don't see me telling you how to build the fire's structure. :-)

Two factors com into play. One is the type of flint fire steel you use and the striking technique. The flint i'm using is an older Gerber Strike Force fire starter and has a thick ferrocium rod with a high magnesium content. This tends to put out a lot more and hotter sparks. Also i tend to strike a flint by rolling my wrist as opposed to sliding along the flint. This helps to dig into the flint steel with a little more pressure which throw more sparks and reduces movement. thanks for the view.
