  • Such a shame, what you say - that it has never been released on DVD, 'cause I'd so much love have it! How did you get a hold on it, then? Please let us know! :D

  • @MrsDelle Yes, it is a shame. I believe It's a tv record. I downloaded it somewhere, can't remember where exactly.

  • Bonjour.

  • That lady's American accent is so bad. And she really gives herself away with "portrait."

  • I had forgotten seeing this all those years ago on 'Masterpiece Theater"--re-watching Brett in "Sherlock Holmes" recently reminded me that he was in this adaption of "Rebecca". Of course I love the Hitchcock version, and it is a film classic, but so far this version is the usual high quality British literary adaption for tv. Comparing it to Hitch is a bit beside the point--compare it to the usual crap you see on TV! And I love Jeremy Brett in anything!

  • @bluegrassbaby86 I suggest you find the Faye Dunnaway version of Mrs Van Hopper, with a proper American accent and over-acting to much you cringe.

  • After seeing the original movie, this has to be the most shameful remake ever, i only needed to watch a couple of minutes to see that there is no feeling in this at all, totally not the same as watching Joan & Laurence, they made this film, no one could ever play the parts like they did. I'm not against remakes but this one seems shocking to me. i cant believe this has so many likes.

  • @spide429 You are so right. They sell the original Rebecca for $ 75 per dvd. and give us this one free. Fontaine was born for Rebecca.

  • This is so pathetic. I get shut off on Rebecca, and get the remake. It sucks. You can never, never, remake a classic. There is but one Fontaine and one Olivier. It was beautiful. And brilliant. It never works. One of a kind. Dump this one,.

  • Is Joanna David mother of actress Emilia Fox

  • @MrsDelle I have looked for this for years!! Best Rebecca ever IMO. Certainly best Maxim and Mrs Danvers. Thank you so so much. My weekend is now organised!

  • Poor spide, hehe. This is actually well-regarded as one of the best, if not the best, ever adaptation of Rebecca. Wonderful atmospheric studio sets, videotaping adds just the right kind of spooky mystery, it may have been for budget reasons but it's an added bonus way too many people brought up on American filmed TV shows fail to understand.
