  • 05:09 to 05:16 = th e most awsome dance ever.

  • even though gamble and huff was writing for their generation me, from this generation it is still so very relevent

  • Want some trivia? When you watch the David Bowie clip, starting at 7:13, that guy in the blue suit singing back ground is non other than LUTHER VANDROSS! Luther actually arranged that background vocal. That aaaaaalllllllll night, young americans young americans, he was a young american was ALL Luther's idea. I got that from a VERY credible source. :)

  • Haha, Chic was fly but "hard" wouldn't enter my mind to describe them. Chic actually is the word that would enter my mind because their sound was "chic"- slick, urban and urbane, but light with a seductive groove. It was a one of a kind sound if you ask me- disco but more.

  • George's new heights of Funk as you put probably was before Disco. If anything Prince took Funk to a whole new level post-Disco.

Sure, Disco was made for for a wider mass-appeal at the time, but I think Chic is pretty darn hard!

  • Yeah, disco was a unique synthesis but it lost the strength and force of funk because it put the beat and the bassline in the background in favor of vocals, strings and other instrumentation. THat's why George Clinton brought Funk to new heights and was consciously anti-disco.

But it's All-American just the same, although I never really liked disco. It was too soft, too many major keys.

That drum piece is also part of the foundation for House, little did he know.

  • 4:27 starts an interesting part as Disco was a direct evolution of Funk. You have Disco once you throw in a Funk foundation and throw in Classical, Jazz and Blues elements and even Gospel as the open hi-hat on the upbeats are really the hand claps of Gospel songs as well! I really think its sad when I hear people putdown Disco as it had all those elements and was more than just dance music.

  • thank u very much. that was a real funky answer

  • The second group is the Ohio Players singing "FIre". The third group singing "Jungle Boogie" is Kool and the Gang. I hope I answered your question.
