This video was taken in the engine room of the Cal-Mac ferry Lord of the Isles at Oban in the early 90s. The main propulsion is a pair of Mirrlees Blackstone MB275-8 cylinder engines 2896bhp at 850 RPM (similar to the BR class 60 locomotve power units) The second half is taken at OBAN with the 3 Cal-Mac ferries, Lord of The Isles, Isle of Arran and Isle of Mull manoeuvring in Oban harbour. All 3 ships are Mirrlees powered!!

  • They are quite high reving for heavy marine units,I suppose it means more shp for less engine space. The old Kelvin 66 and 88shp engines with 9inch stroke used in the fishing boats years ago ticked over at 180RPH and full butt at 750RPH and the L3 Gardners did 900RPM.

  • ive worked in this engine room.Does the starboard engine still have a flat spot.

  • pitty u can't hear them
