I'm no handyman, but I did the basic rainbox (sans battery pack) quite easily. On the spur of the moment I decided to go with 1.5" fittings, but I think John's suggestion of 2" is better. 1.5" is a tight fit for the exhaust hose.

I think you might only need one opening to serve for air intake, output hose, and the wires.
