This video was a project of a 6-week Sociology 1 course at West Los Angeles College in Culver City, CA. The Sociology class was offered as part of the Upward Bound Summer Program. This video is a "Visual Sociology/neo-documentary style" project analyzing social interaction in the forms of greetings/handshakes.
The greeting makes the first impression, favorable or unfavorable, for persons who encounter us in our daily lives. A typical Western handshake is a short ritual in which two people grasp one of each other's opposite hands, often accompanied by a brief up and down movement of the grasped hands. However, as this video project demonstrates - handshaking, greetings and other gestures also communicate nonverbal messages about our personality and confidence level. Good job West Los Angeles College!
