whoops wrong ~ it was a class 40 ~ 8 wheel bogies. That was the problem that the robbers had, because their crim driver couldn't drive a 40 .

And of course a 37 featured in the Great Train Robbery

i dont understand what the facination is with class 47's you can barely make out the noise of them, due to the train they got in tow, and they're not that good looking either... but 37's on the other hand, now THERE's a proper modern day traction locomotive, when they're coming round the bend, they really let you know they're coming, and that satisfiying english electric noise, ya cant really beat that (baring deltics X_X)

The 2 greatest locomotives ever. Should still be in commen use
-
what was the number of the 47??
-
Nice locomotives.

It's not so much about power as operational convenience, and also reliability issues given the age of the locos. Having a loco on each end avoids the need to run round at terminal stations and on other busy routes, and saves time in general.

Why do they need two class 37's to move that small test train?
second clip, the 47 leading the 37, was the 37 dead in tow as I thaught the 47's were not fitted for multiple running like the 37's
