I live in Mexia,Texas -the home of Cindy Walker who wrote this song and 500 more.she is buried in our local cemetary with a large stone guitar as her headstone..she died about 2 years ago and there is not enough room to list the artists who came to her funeral in this small town.....she was a redluse almost-but a lot of us knew her...
I always thought that this was one of the best songs that Ray Charles ever recorded......This version is outstanding....Never knew of this version.....
This song was originaly recorded by country singer Ed Arnold, he co-wrote it with Cindy Walker...Big hit by Andy Williams and then by Lenny Welch both on Cadence Records. They both recored it before Ray Charles as well.
