They are practicing, watch the legit fights, you will see why wearing armor is not only cool looking and good for feeling what a person in combat might have actually felt like, but also it would just hurt super bad, especially when people stab at your face and or neck, and leave dents in your armor and shield. What would that do to your face??? =P

@IIDASHII watch some of our vids we dont touch ....

@ACDoubleEdge There's probably a HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) group near you. Where are you located?
They may or may not use steel though. My group has used everything from padded rattan-cored to plastic to shinai to steel. Steel works the best and is obviously the most realistic. If you look on my channel, you can see me first (although poorly sometimes).

@IIDASHII whoops multi post

@IIDASHII I have seen people make dents in 12 gauge steel, and it was on a helm, so it had already been work-hardened. Some blows, granted not all, do in fact have enough force to break ribs and/or rupture organs. It might not kill immediately but it can, even with a stick. And it will make you stop fighting. A broken rib could also puncture a lung or if your really unlucky your heart. Also, I would love to use metal swords, blunted of coarse, but no-one near me does that sadly.

Point of fact...you aren't using real swords, and the only way this stuff would kill anyone is if you either hit them in the head, in which case I one could kill with just about anything other than a pillow, or if you knock them down and beat them to a bloody pulp. That said, I understand both the appeal of armor, and of this game. Honestly, I'm probably just arguing because I'm jealous that I don;t get to play. It looks like a blast. ;)

For protection, It IS overkill, but I understand the desire for authenticity. I guess I was just thinking its not that authentic when a guys gets rocked in the armor with a stick sword, and hes dead. A REAL sword wouldn't even do much against that.

I haven't underestimated anything, and you clearly don't get me. Steel armor is overkill when using sticks of ANY kind. Its just plain more than you need. That's a fact. Don't get me wrong, it looks cool, and it gets the job done, but it just seems heavy, expensive, and inefficient to me.
what exactly is the point in wearing armor if all someone has to do is touch you and you are dead.

@IIDASHII cause getting hit with a solid bamboo pole when swung by strong people hurts... ALOT and can kill you, they wont allow you to fight unless you have knee armor, elbow armor, a helmet, a gorget, kidney armor and a few other things.

@mustbe18
My point is that steel armor is complete overkill. That stuff must be incredibly expensive (I'm a blacksmith myself, so I know how much work goes into it.). OBVIOUSLY you need to wear a helmet, among other things. I play Lacrosse, and get hit (HARD enough to break bones/kill) with hexagonal metal tubes all the time, but I don't need armor, just some padding and a helmet. Can I assume the players just like the look? I'd never spend that much, but of course, I can make my own armor.

@IIDASHII
the armor look is a big part of it, but not the only one.
also lots of people wear mostly padding, whole groups bace them selves on wearing as little armor as possible.
end up having brusing the size of soft balls after combat..
also the armor doesnt cost that much, lots of the people make their own or get it from friends. i got lots of mine for super cheap.

when this was made it was part of the "barony march of the debatable lands"
but now im up in fairbanks alaska and not really a art of it anymore -.-;;;;
hmmm,, well for advice, since you have 2 hands on your sword now it should be faster than any one handed sword by princaple, so use that to your advantage, and keep your hands far apart on the handle to get the most leverage.
