Memories of afternoons spent at old Olympic Park in Irvington, NJ many moons ago...

@MrJodyh54 I've been a Helen Shapiro fan since her career began. My favorite is "Tell Me What He Said".

@MrJodyh54 Yes, I'm familiar with its history. The song was written during the 1600's with a lot more lyrics and somewhat racy for its time (I've read all of the lyrics). I didn't need the web, I looked into it a long time ago. This version was written in 1949 by Morey/Daniel, used in a Disney film (So Dear To My Heart) and nominated for an Academy Award. There have been many versions since 1949, but for me, they can't beat this.

Check-out 'Helen Shapiro' if you like pre-Beatle music.

@raincoatriver This song was taken from a British an Irish nursery rhyme that teachers over there used to teach children.

Sammy appeared 3 times on the Dick Clark Saturday Night Beechnut Show in 1959 and 1960. I'd like to see someone post those on here if they could be released from Clark's clutches.

Beautiful song! Love it! I grew up in the CCP's of Paterson, NJ And would see him every now and then I went to school with his daughters, Valerie & Shelly. Don't know what ever became of him.

@vinylsingleman He released a single in 1978 (Do You Know...What Life is All About) and I have a CD from 1995 with a re-make of Lavender Blue that sounds 'live'. I have no idea if he performed 'live' after the 60's. I always wanted to see him again but never had the chance. I hope that someone knows.
I was fortunate to see Sammy 'live' in 1960, Greenville, SC (Biggest Show of Stars). I'll never forget it and wish I could have shaken his hand. He's always been my favorite. "Paradise" was on the charts at the time. He did his hits along with "Danny Boy" (excellent).

@raincoatriver - Thanks for sharing that memory with us. I really appreciate listeners that have stories about the featured artist or groups they've seen or met. Better yet, the listeners who are/were personal friends or family of the artists.

I used to work in NYC as assistant engineer at Finetone Recording Studio (701 7th Ave) in 1972, and Sammy Turner was a regular client! Anyone know if he's still living?

@Pickinbuddy - I Googled him and couldn't find any mention of a death, so I assume he's still with us.
