There is still hope:

1) Leia is still around. Being Luke's sister she might still train herself to become a Jedi on equal level with Luke. She could fill in his role.

2.) Due to the Rule of 2, Sith Apprentice like Lord Starkiller should not be training students... unless he is up to overthrow Palpatine. Inter-Sith conflict may give the heroes an advantage.

3.) There's no mention of what happened to the Rebel Alliance, so there's still chance they had managed to survive to continue the fight.
