"Monsieurs Almaine"(lute) by Daniel Bachelor. You hear Bream in his lute/guitar concert in Haakonshallen during "Festspillene in Bergen, Norway" in May 1968. I was present at this magical concert in Haakonshallen- The greatest musical adventure in my life!! I appreciate any comment!!

  • Wonderful postings, thank you. Bream belongs to that select few, the greatest musicians of the 20th century, like Gould, Horowitz, Szell. They go beyond, and reveal what we otherwise would never have known about this music.

  • I'm very glad you apreciate my posting of Julian playing! Thank you for commenting!!

  • I head Bream four times in Copenhagen and once in London. Each time he played the lute during the first half of the concert, and guitar during the other half. People were standing on the seats waving theire arms and shouting for more. Bream was generous and gave up till eight more pieces. He seemed to enjoy it as much as the audience. Those were the days.

  • Such a difficult piece, executed with precision and expression. Hats off to the master!

  • Thank you kindly for interesting comment!

  • Tune the G string down to F# on your (classical) guitar and you've got a lute.

Bream's strings are paired like a 12-string (perhaps in octaves), except the top string is single.

Extra strings on the bass end are tuned to a handy open string bass note.
