@unfluster as some one from the San Francisco Bay Area i can say the same bullshit has happened here the Height and Ashbury retains some of it's old flavor but for the most part it has become a Gentrified Hipster Hell hole as is most of San Francisco these Days it's also hapeneing in LA and Chicago and New York . sad what these Capitalist want to turn our Cities into .

I like this girl, but she doesn't know what she's talking about. The East Village shes referencing is long gone. What she's really showing us are "cool places to shop" Today it is filled with preppies with golf clubs. An overpriced yuppie shit hole.Gentrification (unchecked capitalism) & NYU killed what was once the East Coast Version of th Haight Ashby (also long dead).Th "East Village" today is a place corporate lawyers & Investment bankers buy co-ops R.I.P. The REAL East Village (1971- 1993)

Any old time new yorker knows that gentrification has killed many of the neighborhoods in new york there were once a haven for struggling artists and poets, not hipster hangouts and college grad communities as they are now.
