MEET THE PRESS- The chair was noticeably empty at the top and the end of this Sunday morning's show as Tom Brokaw and colleagues talked about their friend Tim Russert in the studio of the program he hosted weekly for 17 years.

Russert collapsed and died at the NBC Washington, DC headquarters he knew so well and loved on Friday, June 13, 2008 of an apparent heart attack.

Tom Brokaw talks about how much having a father and being a father meant to Tim Russert. Almost at tears, he suggested we honor Tim if we have a father, by remembering our father today. And if we are a father, to be a good father to our children. Then, Tom wished Tim A Happy Father's Day.

Saturday night while playing a show in Europe, "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen dedicated his song "Thunder Road" to his friend and number one fan, Tim Russert. A touching video montage of Tim through the years with recollections in Tim's own words and voice played as Springsteen sang.

Happy Father's Day, Tim Russert.

  • Don't worry, you aren't the only one feeling this way. I had seen this video tribute on MTP the Sunday after Tim Russert died, and was choked up just now watching it again on youtube. Besides his professional accolades, Tim was a big teddy bear with a huge heart who never forgot where he came from. His passion for life, politics, sports and especially for his family were very inspirational. It is sad for Big Russ and for Tim's son Luke who lost his dad way too young. R.I.P. Tim Russert.

  • RIP Tim. I will sorely miss spending every Sunday morning with you.

  • Tim named his son after St Luke, "for much is given much is required" Tim was a strong Democrat, although a strong Catholic too..(one can be a Christian and be a Democrat, it' seems now a days that's so not believed). I believe in that too.

God bless Tim Russert, Luke and Maureen.

  • Well, I TRIED to add this to my favorites, but for some reason, it wouldn't post.

  • BTW... I cried THIS time, too.

  • I'm so glad that you posted this. I was touched the first time I saw it... and I'm pleased to be able to "favorite" it now.

  • "Father Is Like Jesus For Me" Nothing More To Say.

  • Wonderful video for an outstanding man, and a life well lived...

God Bless you Tim... may we meet one day, somewhere over the rainbow.

Thanks for taking the time to share your video.

  • And you will be remembered as an idiot with no funeral. So sad. You are so shallow to think people can't ache for disaster victims and still take time to mourn an individual passing. I feel for you, guy. Someone needs to. This for liftingoggers and his tunnel vision.

  • Thank you so much for the info. Makes my day to get an answer to something I had been mulling over...esp. the connection with "Thunder Road"...and his song for the memorial.
