An excerpt from a recording made in New York in the early 1950's.

Millo sang for several successful seasons at the NYCO under his father's name, Hamill. DeSabata heard him shortly after this disc, and made him his protege'e. A voice of great power and beauty, it filled my childhood with golden tenorial splendor.
Bravo, Papa!

  • I can't get over this performance. Amazing.

What ever happened to this great voice?

  • Thank you. I agree it was a fabulous and beautiful instrument. Also a first rate fellow in every way. In his younger years, and more lyric time he was a popular member of the NYCO singing for at least 5 years there with marvelous press and success. In Italy to study he had several great breaks after this recording becoming quite successful in Italy.

  • OPen heart surgery and a continuing heart ailment stopped his career but he never stopped singing and he sang like this till the day he died at 71! He sang to me over the phone from his hospital barely able to breathe- god bless him- but wanted me to have his swan song!! A great humor and very brave in the face of death, he was my hero. A hero with a gorgeous voice.

  • @A7sogno He had undoubtedly a great voice. For my ears he sounds preferable to Tucker and Peerce, just to mention a few of the stars of the era.And he is one of the few who manages a convincing sob at the end of Canios' aria,

Interesting to know, did his father also posess an operatic voice?

It is interesting how voice tends to run in families.

Thank you so much for sharing his gift with us.

  • That is a man's voice! I guess big voices run in the family

  • Shades of Caruso! One of the best Canios I've ever heard, in every way - beauty of voice, intensity, phrasing, language, magnificent high A - it's all there!

  • Amazing voice!

  • Averne un Canio così al giorno d'oggi !!!!

  • Degna erede di papà!!

Bravi tutti e due!! Voci straordinarie....!!!!! :-)

  • No doubt the singing gene was in the Millo family ! Like father like daughter as for the size and splendor of the instrument !

  • Nice picture with Aprile as a young child with him, very cute with her dad. So nice to hear this.

  • Wonderful tenor and his daughter got his genes Bravo!

  • I enjoyed that very much, more would be welcome. In passing I will add I also enjoyed the bit from the last act of Saza. Also I have listened and enjoyed Aprile Millo singing for many years. J.K.
