The 3rd track of the Left Banke's classic debut album.
Walk Away Renée/Pretty Ballerina is an album by New York quintet The Left Banke, released in 1967. Although not widely popular upon its release, it is now viewed as perhaps the definitive example of "baroque pop" music. The album's two hits were the title cuts, "Walk Away Renée" (charting at number 5) and "Pretty Ballerina" (number 15).
Truly unusual approach for ANY time period in music history - and thereby, classic. Picturesque lyrics, excellent instrumentals and evocative singing. The sum total defines what the Left Banke is all about, and why they are so revered - The uniqueness comes through even more so today.

Got one of those inexplicable cravings to hear this a few moments ago, and wallah! Takes me back to a great time and a favorite group. And yes, Love and Forever Changes" is another favorite. Now, I have to go back and check out Prefab Sprout...

I heard the cover of this by the Rockin' Berries on Sounds Of The Sixties - this is much better.

besides the Baroque Pop of Walk away Renee and Pretty Balerina, there was this one, on par with and making that, a trio of great hits for this old SF band (it says NY but not, and i should know) named after the sand Dunes of Paris....

The album is magical. Has an emotional impact similar to Love's "Forever Changes" and Prefab Sprout's "Steve McQueen" (for me, at least).
