@ riv4life618,,, u don't know much about country if you don't think Barbara was around in it's "heyday." Country's "heyday," isn't about when YOU loved it or when YOU were young, and i mean YOU in the general term, not directed at you personally... as ppl get older they HATE on the current crop, celebrities and the public alike, such as you are doing.... furthermore if ppl think barbara or tayler or Shania or whorever IS POP OR ROCK.. you obviously have NO idea what POP or ROCK truly sounds like

FURTHERMORE - Taylor Swift's music is following the SAME county cosmopolitan/pop crossover path as Barbara helped to forge back in her heyday; And in fact, she sounds more like pop/rock & roll than Barbara's music did. Educate yourselves, and speak from a non-biased position in the future, or else you just make yourselves look like idiots.

You stupid fucktards! I'm only 30 yrs old, but if you can't remember as far back as I can? Lemme just remind you that Barbara Mandrell was THE FIRST female to win the CMA Entertainer Of The Year award TWICE - and Taylor Swift is now THE SECOND, FOLOWING in Barbara's footsteps. If that doesn't make her a legend or give her the right to speak about Taylor's success in country music, then you're just ignorant. And also remember that in the late 70s-early 90s ALL country songs sounded like pop music

@leftfieldmind Barbara wasn't even around in Country's hay day, lol. She is a legend though, a legend in her own mind

"Barbara Mandrell, who was one ofthe most important figures in Country Music" hahahaha If she is that, then George & Loretta must be Gods because they were a hell of a lot more popular, talented, & important COUNTRY Music than she was. Love how she considers herself in a league with Loretta, Dolly, & Tammy!!! That made my day!!! lol. Of course she loves Taylor Swift, she was the original pop tart who billed herself Country (tho @ least she had some vocal talent tho, TS has NONE

You don't have to be able to sing anymore to become a famous singing icon! That's what sucks about today. I'm all about change but, if your gonna get the country vocalist award of the year you better be able to sing. I have not purchased a single country song since she won. Just lost faith in the industry

Johnny Cash was ostracized at first because he was considered rock and roll!

i think that Wynonna (having won EOY at 19) has every right to share her opinion.
The addage never judge a man until you have walked in his shoes is perfectly appropriate.

There is room for the traditional sound and there's room for a new sound. New sounds arise because new artists and even older ones have to do something that sets them apart from the crowd. The pop-influenced country can open up many people to traditional country, so crossover is a good thing.
Barbara did a lot of traditional country, as well as pop-influenced country. At the top of her game, she was making hit after hit and selling a ton of records. She had her style and made it pay off.

uh...I thought B.M. was going to talk herself.. and wow...@leftfieldmind...you do have some opinions. I Found this through Dave Dudley, hmmm... I guess musical evolution can go both ways with the young. Fortunately you all now have Tears of the Moosechaser to save country music from itself.
I bet it makes Taylor and Carrie and Kellie happy to hear that!
It seems like almost every country singer is, at one time, viewed as someone who is about to "destroy" country music.

Barbara is truly one of the last LEGENDS of country hay day, no pun intended,,, she was the bridge that brought country from Loretta and Dolly to REBA and without a bridge NOTHING grows.... chew on that when you dis Barbara again.....
