This is very informative. I have never heard anyone say that it is normal practice to soak the ink stick for a minute before use. This makes sense. Especially if you were using a special ink stone.
I have some 40 year olf ink from Acorn planet, and it doesnt need soaking, it kindof "melts" when you make ink. Is very soft when wet, I need to be careful, but maybe this is the old way of making ink sticks. Modern ones are lovely, I have one of these shown here, but it isnt as soft.
