When the music began I was almost in tears. Then, when that dude started to sing & was "bucking his eyes" (lol)... man, I LOST IT. Hell, no! Come on, Man. You set Negros back about 1,000 years. The singing is O.K., but you gotta cut out that coon sh**! You ain't THAT MUCH in character!!! Her singing is really beautiful, too, I'd also like to add.
I have EXPERIENCED productions of this great folk opera over the past 25 years at the Met and other great houses. I can honestly say I have never heard a better Porgy. Nor have I read a review that revealed, " great timbre, excellent breath control and pitch, but the eyes were all wrong".Forget his eyes, the gift comes in the voice, on recordings and in live productions. This my friends is the real stuff. brava e bravo.
lol...look up his bio. It may make more sense to you if you know where he came from. I was a little confused by him at first too. You might also want to look up the opera and read about porgy's character. Based on his background and the background of the character, I think it's a reasonable interpretation.

nice voice, but who are you singing to? Bess or the conductor? If I was Bess I would have left the building.
