NCS Survey currently operate two Teledyne Gavia Offshore Surveyor AUVs from
their headquarters in Aberdeen. Rated to 500m and 1,000m respectively, each
of these low logistics vehicles have a payload of colour camera, side scan
sonar (SSS), multi-beam echosounder (MBES), inertial navigation system
(INS), Doppler velocity log (DVL), obstacle avoidance sonar, DGPS and
iridium satellite phone. They are able to perform peform a variety of tasks
including pipeline inspection, both acoustically and visually and seabed
mapping. They are particularly beneficial in restricted areas having
already performed surveys in close proximity to oil & gas field platforms
and even under a jack-up drilling rig. Clients to date include oil & gas
majors such as BP, Shell and Total, with operations in the North Sea of the
UK, the US Gulf of Mexico and even as far afield as Argentina.
