Why in the 60's there were so many of these Teen-Tragedy songs, e.g This song, Laurie, The Last Kiss, Patches?

Dickie Lee was my mom's friend back in high school. He used to sit on her front porch and ask her how a song that he wrote sounded on his guitar, and she used to love it when his band of high school buddies played in the auditorium, because they could get out of class to watch him..

This was a true romantic tradgedy at a time when music was coming into it's own as a real form of communication between people.

Go to utube and see Adam Lambert sing SOAKED .As beautiful !!!!
What happened to this kind of music in an age of repulsively vulgar and cynical rap? This kind of music raised up the best of us from the beast within. God how I miss this time!!
