Well I knew that the creators of Miku didn't make it up, but her version of it is what made it become famous.
I didn't know it was Finnish though. That's cool. :)

Wrong the ORIGINAL is not Hatsune Miku but rather an old Finnish group since this is an old Finnish folk song; Miku does sing it though.

Hatsune Miku, the original singer of the Levan Polkka (and what she was basing her video on)
Her signature item is a leek (the vegetable you were referring to) and she has pigtails.

if you notice her hair was up in pigtails while she was holing that leek. Theres a running .. i wanna say.. joke, that a character by the name of Hatsune Miku from the Vocaloids, sings the song while spinning a leek.
