I just don't get the ending. He asked for Anna. She said she's asleep, but tells him to go on in. He says he doesn't want to wake her. She says there's no need to wake her. He goes into the room. She's asleep evidently. All he does is lay down. I don't get the ending. Is she dead?

One of the most powerful endings I can remember. What a terrific film. Lives up to the book in every way. And imagine--no exploding cars.
