This was my first street bullfight after being stationed in the Azores back in 1993.
Similiar to the running of the bulls in Pamplona, but much more laid back. The bulls are controlled (slightly) with a rope. These are held virtually every week on this small island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. Even back in 1993 this was something that us lawsuit-happy Americans wouldn't ever contemplate holding at home.
At 3:22 I wound up accidentally being caught out on the road when they let the bull out pretty close to me. You couldn't see the bull unfortunately, (or anything else!) and I wound up smacking some poor dude in the head with my camera. Oh well. Its what you did for fun on an island that measured 12 miles by 18 miles.
Hello Kevingabbert, I was born in Terceira. I was wondering where in Terceira this bullfight took place. Also, what did you think of Terceira? Portugal? Culture, etc. I am just curious what people from other countries (USA etc.) think of my birth country. I am a US citizen proud and would do anything in my power deemed necessary to help/protect. There is not much I can do. I am a middle age woman. But, I respect young people who are able and willing to fight for our country like you. Thanks

Well nbkihy2, 20 years ago, when I was 21 I found it to be refreshingly different from American life. Admittedly at the time I was looking for more excitement in those days but ever since I left I have missed the slower pace of life back there. Terceira is a beautiful island. I miss being there. This looks like it was probably in Lajes. I know I could have walked back to the base from where I was filming that.
