no that's what he said about Snake's Revenge back then, but then he somehow was inspired to create Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake because of Snake's Revenge.

well the worst part is... you never get to see Metal Gear itself in the NES version, while on MSX it's the last-boss... and all this Sneaking/Stealth stuff was removed from the NES version, you just HAD TO bump into enemies and kill them or run away, while on MSX there were lots of possibilities to avoid any kind of confrontation. I guess those are the two biggest parts.
