STORY:
Service robots, medical robots and now military robots. This is the first ever Israeli robotics conference in Herzeliya, Israel, and the inventors aims are to get their innovations recognized.
Israel has a thriving robotic industry and one of the devices being promoted is this.
It's the Versatile, Intelligent, Portable Robot, aka VIPeR, made and tailored for the Israeli military by Elbit Systems.
The lightweight platform robot, which can use cameras, microphones, sensors and even a small rifle, can be taken into a combat zone to detect explosive devices and can locate enemy ambushes, says program manager Stephan Holdis.
[Stephan Holdis, Program Manager]:
"This specific robot was developed by the Israeli army, for it's own use for the dismounted soldier. That is the only robot today that can be carried into battle and intuitively operated even while they are shooting at you."
Researchers and engineers from industry and academia are at the conference to exchange ideas on contemporary topics in robotics and solicit governmental support for the field.
[Professor Zvi Shiller, Chairman, Israeli Robotics Conference]:
"I believe that given the strength of the Israeli industry in electronics and in software development and in communications, all we need is just to integrate all of it with hardware and we can be the super-power, the world super-power in robotics."
From robotic Sony dogs to a patriotic robotic lawn mowers, all the inventions here range from pleasure and service to national security.
War with robots?!
Robots aren't the solution because war is NEVER the solution too...
The man can kill itself with some solutions...
