What is Vitiligo Vitiligo (vit-ill-EYE-go) is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin are destroyed. As a result, milky white patches (depigmentation) appear on the skin in different parts of the body.
How Is Vitiligo Diagnosed? The diagnosis of vitiligo is made based on a physical examination, medical history, biopsy of skin tissue and other laboratory tests.
During court depositions in 1994, Michael Jackson's dermatologist Dr. Arnold Klein presented lab tests, legal medical documents and testified that in 1984, Michael was diagnosed with both vitiligo and a form of lupus which also causes skin disoloration
Any part of your body may be affected by vitiligo, depigmentation usually develops first on sun-exposed areas of your skin, such as your hands, feet, arms, face and lips. Although it can start at any age, vitiligo often first appears between the ages of 20 and 30. About 0.5 to 1 percent of the world's population, or as many as 65 million people, have vitiligo. In the United States, 1 to 2 million people have the disorder. Vitiligo may also be hereditary; that is, it can run in families but MOST people diagnosed with vitiligo do NOT have a family history of the disorder.
How does Vitiligo effect people? While vitiligo is usually not harmful medically, its emotional and psychological effects can be devastating. People with vitiligo can experience emotional stress, particularly if the condition develops on visible areas of the body . Some people who have vitiligo feel embarrassed, depressed, or worried about how others will react. .Since Vitiligo is so noticeable and embarrassing to some patients, special cosmetics are great to conceal the lotches and create evenness of skin tone.
Vitiligo generally appears in one of three (3) patterns:
1. Focal. Depigmentation is limited to one or a few areas of your body.
2. Segmental. Loss of skin color occurs on only one side of your body.
3. Generalized. wide-spread across many or parts of your body. where pigment loss can involve MOST of the surface of your skin.
For some people, vitiligo spreads slowly, over many years. For other people, spreading occurs rapidly. additional depigmentation can follow periods of physical or emotional stress.
Vitiligo Treatments There is no cure for vitiligo. The main goal of treating vitiligo is to restore the function of the skin and improve the patient's appearance.. The choice of therapy depends on the number of white patches; their location, sizes, and how widespread they are. Plus how the skin reacts as The choice of therapy depends on the number of white patches; their location, sizes, and how widespread they are. Plus how the skin reacts as treatments to restor pigment do NOT work for everyone.
Treatment may include covering smaller patches with long-lasting dyes, light-sensitive drugs in addition to ultraviolet light therapy, or corticosteroid creams. For people who do not respond or have vitiligo on more than 50 percent of their body, depigmentation May be recommeded as the best treatment option this involves fading the rest of the skin on the body to match the areas that are already white.
Depigmentation does not actually bleach the skin. Instead it works by inhibiting the skins pigment-producing cells, or melanocytes, which lie deep in the skin. The procedure does NOT change ones race or character it is mearly a way for those who suffer from this disorder to even out their skin tone and take back some control over an incurable skin disorder.
In addition, a person who undergoes depigmentation will always be unusually sensitive to sunlight. depigmentation procedure does not change ones race or character it is mearly a way for those who suffer from the disorder to even out their skin tone and take back some control over a incurable skin disorder.
people who have vitiligo should minimize sun exposure and use a sunscreen that provides protection from both the UVA and UVB forms of ultraviolet light. This will also minimizes tanning, which makes the contrast between normal and depigmented skin less noticeable.

i dunt think they hated him, i just think that were only doing it because they liked to pick on people that were immensely famous, just like they did to princess diana. the press have no consideration for others, they only do it to sell papers, even if it meens saying stuff about people thats isnt true. if michael didnt die because of the drugs, the media wuld have finished him off in the end. :(
comment cntd. (one actually not being mean to him) and i really liked it, it told very intersting and good things about him and i liked it, i remember going to my mom telling her everything it said about Michael and kept asking her questions about him, eventually she told me that, that was enough of Michael Jackson and to move on
I hate what the media did to him, im 14 (born 1995) and starting two years before i was born(and longer) the media had nothing but a bunch of crap to say about him, of course many kids my age thought he was bad or a freak because ever since they wer born the media had nothing good to say abotu him, didnt mention how taletned he was or how his album was the number 1 seller in the world, i remember once when i was about seven and was reading a magazine article about Michael
don't worry about it "OhThatHolly1"... screw the media, I thought he was a pedophile because of them. It took me to read through the whole trial to come up with all the doubts =\
No matter how much we do research, and find out the facts about Michael, haters always tell us we're crazy and wrong. Their basis? Lies they heard on TV and in magazines. You know what? I never take anything at face value, I always want to know the truth. Even though I loved MJ, I needed to find out for myself. After researching, I found that he mostly told the truth about everything. And he DEFINATELY had vitiligo, that's no question. I wish people weren't so biased.
