  • For future conversions I would recommend using a TransWarp motor.

    Much simpler. :)

    Any commercially available "Electric Vehicle Motor" would have cost more than the entire car project.

    There are lots of nice motors out there a person can buy, but this was a low-budget project. One of the advantages of an "EV Motor" is that they have somewhat standardized bolt patterns. Combine that with a kit adapter plate, and it makes a conversion pretty straight-forward.

    It's a series-wound motor from a Nissan brand full-size sit-down electric forklift.

  • For my Ev I just have direct drive. I cut out the clutch disc's splined hub ( that goes over the transmission shaft) that came with the original gas engine clutch welded that to a plate drill and tapped four balanced holes in the circular plate and bolted it to the motor coupling for my warp 9.

  • Hi Dr. Larry here. I too have a Geo with a love joy connector and I have to replace it about once a year. The problem with the spline being worn smooth is the cheep stuff China calls metal. In reality it is some kind of composite material. Also I suspect you softened it when you welded it. I drilled through it in three places and countersunk set screws. That seems to help a lot but of course it does nothing to improve the metal. Good luck

  • If your having alignment problems why not use some kind of CV joint, to alow for the motion.?

  • You removed the temper from the clutch hub with the welding heat therby softening it. I dont think you have an alignment problem as much as you have much more torque than the gas motor ever had and that lovejoy coupling will not take it, you need to make up a coupling useing the damper from the stock friction plate, I'll try to find your blog. Machinist.

  • There is just TOO MUCH SLOP in the Love-Joy! The coupler was not designed for excessive stop-n-go use. It's NOT an alignment problem!

  • Ditch the Love-Joy and get a Taper-Lock!
