BEIJING, July 11 -- Mosques opened Friday for prayers in most places in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, except for the capital Urumqi where some were shut for security reasons.
Muslims in Urumqi were persuaded to perform their weekly congregational prayer at home following Sunday's deadly riot that killed at least 156 people.
Government said mosques in some sensitive areas were closed at their immas' suggestion for saftey considerations.
Some smaller mosques, however, remained open for the Friday prayer, known as Jumu'ah, the most important prayer for the Muslims.
China's largest mosque, the Id Kah Mosque in Kashgar City, which located in a boarder city Kashgar in northern Xinjiang, remains open for the Jumu'ah.

Soundbite: Xinhua correspondent "This is the broader city Kashgar, in northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region. It is an important town along the ancient silk road. Here most of the residents are of Uygur ethnic group and Muslims."

Muslims here had their normal prayers in mosques.

In another boarder city Yining in western Xinjiang, almost one thousand Muslims attended the prayer at Baytulla Jameh Mosque. The prayer started in the afternoon and went smoothly and peacefully.

Soundbite: Gong Yidong, Xinhua correspondent "It is July 10, 2009. I am standing now before one of the biggest mosques in Yili City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. And its the first weekly prayers after riots broke out in Urumqi on Sunday. We can see that the believers are performing their duties in a smooth way."

Jumu'ah is a congregational prayer that Muslims hold every Friday. It generally lasts over an hour.

  • Every human being has the right to practice his fath, why chinese be deprived of this right

  • No matter how long, nor how many life spans it takes, I'll accomplish my G'd given mission: to save you, by leading you into repentance. Then, after you become saved, you'll join me, and the rest of Lord's messengers in saving those who remain behind. Once they too get saved, they will also join us, and we will keep doing this for centuries, until every human soul is finally saved, & we all become ONE. Now, I'll be your saviour; next time, you'll be the saviour for those who will come after you.

  • @ImSchnitzer Dude?!?! you better show more respect to whom you speak to! you have no standing, you have been exposed already, jose balzac rivera, you are a looser, get a life! And, yes, only the true Mashiah Ben Yosef is one of the Two Messiahs that are schedule to come, but your username of MashiahBenYosef is definitely not the Mashiah.

  • @ImSchnitzer Hey, jose balzac rivera, you are always deflecting the attention you generate when the truth comes out about you!! And you keep calling me by other names suach as Asher Meza or Rav Abraham Goldstein, when in fact you know that I'm Uzi from Israel, the same one that got you kicked out from all the synagogues from Puerto Rico because of your lies and anti-semitic racism against the Jews of Ashkenazi background. You are a fraud, you are not Jewish and you will never be one.

  • @TalmidChacham

Dude, How can MashiahBenYosef not be Mashiah? Can't you read?

  • In spite of the foul language he uses in this forum, Rabbi Avraham Goldstein (Talmid Chacham, violnistapr, etc.) is a great person. May Adonai bless him with a share in Olam Haba (The world to come).

  • @MashiahBenYosef YOU ARE NOT THE MESSIAH!!!! GET THAT IN YOU FAT HEAD!

  • @MashiahBenYosef Hey, Jose Balzac Rivera, do me a favor, go and F yourself, all you do is pretendending to be someone that you are not. You are not Jewish and you are the Messiah, but you are scumbag, anti-semite, with many names in youtube such as: MashiahBenYosef, rabinoboricuavirtual, ImSchnitzer, HectorYLaComay, EloheiPuntoNet, balzac el judio. you are a fraud, get a life! an old man like you playing childish games of impersonating people, that sick! you are a sick bastard. Vayase al carajo!

  • @TalmidChacham

You cannot behave like Bera (the king of Sodom), and claim to have the God of Avraham! That would be to blaspheme His Holy Name, and you know what the penalty for blaspheming is. Fear God and give Him glory! Repent, and return to the God of Avraham while you still can. After our sins cause us to be delivered into our enemies hands (just like in 70 C.E.), it will be too late.

  • @izz your god is not my G-d, my G-d is the G-d of Israel...
