Sign the petition online at http://www.freebabarahmad.com, for Babar Ahmad to face trial in the UK.

He is a British Citizen and is accused of crimes alleged to have occurred in the UK. We call upon the British Government to put Babar Ahmad on trial in Britain.

If 100,000 signatures are obtained by 10TH NOVEMBER 2011, his case will be eligible for a debate in Parliament.

BACKGROUND

Babar Ahmad is a British Citizen, born and brought up in South London.

In December 2003 he was arrested by the Metropolitan Police at his home in South London. During this arrest he was beaten and abused by members of the Territorial Support Group from the Metropolitan Police. He sustained 73 injuries to his body. He was released 6 days later without charge. The Metropolitan Police admitted liability and paid compensation. No officers, however, have been convicted of this assault.

Babar Ahmad was later arrested again in August 2004 on an extradition request by the US. He is in his eighth year behind bars, making him the longest British detainee held without trial.

  • What is the latest news on him?

  • @1Explosivez1 - On 5th December 2011 a debate on extradition was held in the House of Commons. The House passed the motion without a vote that ministers should change the UK-US Extradition treaty and European Arrest Warrant. The agreed motion is not binding on the government. So we are waiting to hear on this news and also from the European court that is deciding on whether Babar should be sent to the US or not.

  • This is just racism nothing more look what USA did to Afia Saddiqi this just the same i was boiut to sign but it asked for my adress and i not comfatable to do that cant t you do it accouring to amount to veiws so much easier

  • @dipsii1 Unfortunately you need to enter an address. It's up to you but it's only a petition. The only thing the petition is asking for is to try Babar in the UK as he is a UK citizen - that's all. He is more likely to get a fair trial in the UK compared to the US.
