Me enjoying my third high altitude flight with the vintage SG-38 glider at Eskilstuna soaring club during the youth-camp of 2009. A modified old car towed the plane with a 600 m long rope to an altitude of about 200 m. After that; pure flying, as real as it gets. My best flying experience by far!

  • Very very short "roll out" during landing. Those old skids really work good. :)

  • @nestofdragons Not good an gravel though... :)

  • Fantastic! I remember having a model glider when I was a kid but never knew it was a scale model of the full-size aircraft! Flying this looks to have the appeal of hang-gliding, but with the benefit of 3 axis control. Are these gliders still manufactured or available in kits? Great footage too - makes me want to get back into the air after many years out of hang gliding. I'm guessing it's L:D is not great but it would have to appeal for open cockpit feel and cost. How are they in a thermal?

  • @ethelthefrog60 Unfortunately, these are long since out of production. Originally a german design from 1938, but this individual is a bit more recent (from 1944). L:D is 10 at best, I managed to get 8 out of it.

I didn't get to try her out in thermals, we only flew in calm evenings..

  • @onelix86 Just listen! If it is noisy its going fast, if it is silent it will stall soon :)

  • You should get some steempunk googles and clothes!

And as a paraglider pilot I don't think it looks scary at all.

  • @kaschtnsamtdiekarbln well i suppose if u were gona fall out of it helame isnt gona be much good to ya id have felt safer with a paracute even in closed cockpits i wear one

  • ... i guess some sort of eye wear is a requirement because of risk of bee strike :)

  • so cool! looks like fun, must be great feeling the wind and just having nothing around you when youre up there, no cockpit. Ive seen gliders like this in the aviation museum here in Helsinki, at first i thought lol u must be mad to go up in one like that but then again what do i know, have never flown in a glider. Again looks so cool and fun !! thx for upload.

  • Good job bro! Awesome flying

  • no helmet?! you are one crazy viking

  • @BudMantheyBand Awesome, thank you! They look the bee's knees in gliding if you ask me. Fun, portable and 3 axis control.

  • Way cool! Very nice without any backround sound.

  • @ethelthefrog60 Check out GOAT Gliders !!! I to started in Sailplanes Went to Hangliders , but wanted something in-between ... I found it 20years latter GOAT Gliders !
