Percussionist, Kevin Ricard who works on so of the top tv shows and film scores performs solos on both bongo and pandeiro. He is currently working on American Idol and Dancing with the Stars
@pcastag1 Good point. I think it actually could be very useful. Personally, I'd pick parts I liked and try to work them out and put them in my arsenal/vocabulary, but I wouldn't spend tons of time trying to put it all together in one piece and get it performance ready.
But yeah, transcribing solos can definitely be helpful for some ideas here and thee.
Yeah, I guess it can be helpful in some ways, but i don't think one should spend way too much time trying to do it. Kinda seems like a waste of time if done too much.
I think "covering" (I would probably say "imitating") other people's solos is great practice; if you don't have a lot of experience soloing, it helps you build vocabulary for your own solos and for the style that you're playing.

@RubgyDrums Some people call it transcribing, it is a valuable tool to pick up new Ideas, techniques, and increase your vocabulary on teh instrument.
