I would also mention that most of the reason you don't hear of many of $cientology's exploits is that they make it quite clear to people both inside and outside their cult, that they will use any means (legal or otherwise) that they can get away with, to intimidate and oppress anyone who attempts the exposition of their harmful behaviours and policies.
$cilons have certainly killed people through criminal neglect, denial of psychiatric care and medication, driving people to suicide, and so on..

Certainty is not in itself a virtue. In the context you're talking about, the exact opposite is in fact true. Faith or certainty in the face of opposing evidence is also called dogma, blind faith, willful ignorance, fundamentalism etc...
The chronic failure to question one's own beliefs and positions is a distinctly unintelligent (and harmful) trait, and one which the fanatically religious exhibit in very unhealthy and dangerous amounts.

don't confuse admiration for actions with admiration of attitude. depth of belief and certainty are impressive traits. what you DO with those traits varies, of course.
in the case of scientologists, i wouldn't compare them to islamic suicide bombers, seeing as i haven't exactly heard of rampant car-bombing by scientologists.
