  • American pilots complained about this bird but I am positive a good pilot can make it lethal. Look at how russian aces could not get enough of this bird.

  • Yeah it was a good low altitude fighter (where most of the dogfights took place on the Eastern Front)

  • I have a picture of this very P- 39 on my wall in my computer room. I've even seen it at an airshow. Beautiful aircraft and lethal!

  • @Mccabone Interesting

  • Hats off to the guys that restored this bird... I have a photo of my wifes Decorated Grandfather sitting on the wing during WWII!

Apparently this very plane made some scraffing runs and helped advance his platoon in a very tough battle... so when he returned he wanted to meet the pilots and they took photo's of him on the wings of two different P-39s.

  • Alot of fire power but pushed off on the allies as it wasn't the cutting edge with new ideas comimg up. Many countries that got them, liked them however.

  • @MetalSonic150 She was a very elegant design, shame about the lack of turbo supercharger for high altitude.

  • I want this plane so bad.

  • P-39 fighter was revolutionary in many ways and could've been the best fighter during the early stage of WWII. Fortunately for the Japanese pilots, it never had the engine that it deserved..

  • @GerbilEssences oh yes they could have made that work with the airacobra but since the engine is behind the cockpit and how its such a complex design the supercharger malfunctioned all the time and nearly killed the pilot in some cases, so they ended up selling them to the russians for a ground pounding tank buster.

  • @iphone3gs2208 Very manouvreable for a twin engine type, unlike the me110 etc.

  • @GerbilEssences ya the p38 lightning is living proof of what they could have done with that plane it had superchargers with 2 allison engines and it was a great interceptor plane
