  • are there different types of shamisen or is it that there are different genres of shamisen music?

  • @JovialDepression Both! There are small "Hosozao" Shamisen(ZAO means neck as in fingerboard. Hoso refering to "Thin"). Chuzao (Chu meaning "middle size") and Futozao (Futoi literally means "Fat"). Each one of these represents a different style of playing. For example the Futozao is used for harder, more aggresive styles

and gentler, more subtle styles are easier to express on a Hosozao...ETC.

  • HA HA. Sorry to inform you but the Tsugaru Shamisen actually Really is made with dogskin. The smaller Middle sized Shamisens are traditionally made with catskin and it is the only Okinawan shamisen that is made from snakes.

  • bonjour sire, even beethoven have loved to hear the video , this string instrument can play the strings of soul, it's heavenly , guruji will u add some more european master-pieces like of bizet , or boccherini , or paginini, Yoi ichi nichi wo.

  • is the shamisen easier than the guitar or is it more difficult.?

i mean theres less strings but theres no frets.

    (im a guitarist and pianist)

  • this is beautiful. don't know anything about this instrument, but it looks like its fretless and is that giant thing that he's holding the pick?

  • @shamikami Was wondering why there was a need to say "tsugaru shamisen".Thanks for clarifying.

  • classic even beethoven would be proud of u osho

  • absolut ok

  • So many tuning issues but not that bad for that instrument I suppose.

  • @JUSTNOISEontheWIRES Yours too? I was obsessed with that song for a while.
