Postal III is an upcoming third-person shooter video game in development by Running With Scissors. It is the third game in the Postal video game franchise and is scheduled for release in North America in the second quarter of 2011 [2] for Microsoft Windows, Linux,[3][1] Mac OS X,[4] and Xbox 360, being the first game in the Postal series to be released on a video game console. A PlayStation 3 port was announced in later stages of development, which will probably be released shortly after the initial release.[5] The game was developed under the working title Postal 3: Catharsis until October 18, 2006, when the finalized title was revealed to be Postal III.[6][7]

Postal III will continue and expand upon the sandbox-style design of its predecessor, Postal 2, as well as include motion captured performances by a wide array of celebrities, including Ron Jeremy, Jennifer Walcott, Randy Jones, and Uwe Boll, director of the Postal film.[8]

In Postal III, The Postal Dude emigrates to Paradise's sister town of Catharsis as he previously blew up Paradise with a nuclear bomb.[9] Unlike its predecessor, the game will not be based on the Unreal engine but rather on the Source engine. Also, Postal III will be a third-person shooter, in contrast to the earlier entries in the series (Postal 2 being a first-person shooter and Postal being an isometric 2D game).

Early gameplay footage of the game being played at E3 2008 reveals new weapons such as "The Badgersaw", a nail bat, an M60 machine gun and the return of the gas can and matches from Postal 2. A new weapon concept is a test lab monkey which will react to a laser being pointed by the Postal Dude. Product manager Mike Jaret revealed in an interview that there will be "special vehicles" in the game such as Segways.

In an interview with Joystiq.com, Running With Scissors founder Vince Desi said that the game would likely be released in the first quarter of 2011. He added, "It's in the final stages in Moscow, I don't think it will come out this Christmas."[2] Later he also revealed in an email correspondence that the game would likely be out around May, and that they are hopeful that they will reach a distribution deal at the next Game Developers Conference.[1]

I like it too, but look at any game made with Unreal Engine, they always have ridiculous graphics, especially the water and lighting

Not yet because its still in beta, they would be mainly trying to get the mechanics down, they will most likely update graphics as a final task

What I mean is that the real time lighting, shadows, water, specular map, transparency, refractions, reflections etc are always ridiculous in Unreal Engine, because that is the stuff the engine handles, poloy count on models such as players, cars buildings etc is controlled entirely by the creator, then engine has no power there
