He regaled the audiences at a very young age accompanying his great Uncle Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan but little did any one know that he would reach the same level of popularity once he grew up, because Rahat Fateh Ali Khan today is as popular and his 'Sufi Style' has touched the hearts of young and old alike all over the world. Following on the footsteps of his family from Faislabaad, Pakistan, Rahat and his party started as Qawwals with lot of success but it was his singing in Bollywood films that took everyone by surprise.

After NUSRAT'S death in 1997 , Rahat took Nusrat's first name in a traditional gesture of admiration of his master, and in so doing, was officially recognized as the new leader of USTAD NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN'S group.

Born in FAISALABAD, Rahat was singing with his uncle and father FARRUKH FATEH ALI KHAN by the age of 3, formalized training at the age of 6 and joined his uncle's group by 15. His solo rendering in Birmingham, UK at the age of 16 heralded his arrival and there was no looking back, as he accompanied his uncle and father around the world, and took over officially after the death of legendary uncle in 1997.

But it was his sufi rendering of 'Lagi Man Ki Lagan' and 'Jiya Dhadak Dhadak Jaye' in Bollywood films "Paap" & "Kalyug",

that catapulted him to stardom and thus started an amazing journey of ' Sufi Songs ' in Hindi films which got him the 'Best Male Playback Singer of the Year' award for his soulful singing of

'Aaj Din Chadeya..' in Saif Ali Khan's "Love Aaj Kal"( 2009 ), Mirchi Award for Best Male Singer for 'Surili Ankhiyon waale .. ' in Salman Khan's " Veer "( 2010 ),

Best Sufi Singer award for 'Sajda..Tera Sajda...' in Shahrukh Khan's " My Name Is Khan "(2010 ),

Star-Screen & Filmfare's Best Singer Award for ' Dil Toh Bachha Hai Ji' in Vishaal Bhardwaj's " Ishqiya "( 2010 ),

Big Star Entertainment award,Mirchi Music award, IIFA and APSARA award for Best Singer for 'Tere Mast Mast Do Nain' in Salman Khan's "Dabangg"( 2010 )

and recently , his romantic rendering of 'Teri Meri Meri Teri Prem Kahani' in Salman Khan's "Bodyguard"( 2011 ) has been voted as the Most Romantic Song of the Year in an online poll.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's songs in films like "Once Upon A Time In Mumbai", "Anjaana Anjaani", "Badmaash", "Lahore", "We're FAMILY", "Ready", "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan", "Virsa" and "Mausam" have been chartbusters and already some of his songs in upcoming films like "Will You Marry Me?", "Tezz", "Blood Money" and "Mirza-the Untold Story" are popular on air-waves, proving once and for all that RAHAT FATEH ALI KHAN is the most popular singer today.

Surrey BC's KAMAL'S VIDEO PALACE (Kamal Sharma) hosted Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his group in 2010 at Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre and the concert was sold out in advance.
