  • wow, you are one lucky guy for acquiring those instruments. to be honest w/

you, i did not like my set up after all. Mixing the cheap pedals w. EVH

effects was a bad idea. Well at least I tried. Now I m only using the MXR

phaser and EVH wah connected to my Line 6 amp, it sounds much better just

like you have said. The Line 6 has a Crunch preset, and it sound very much

    like EVH .

  • Man, that remix was so cool! Where did you got it?

  • @gabrielguitarman thanks , I just downloaded it from the internet, Roland Chayer's Van Halen Remix/ Van Karen Life. It was featured also in the Van Halen Newsdesk.

  • Ok, cool and all, but you have to first understand what the "brown sound" is and it has nothing to do with fx pedals. The root of the brown sound is the phenomonon of the "brown out" When the power grid is overstressed, the power level drops. When the power to a tube amp drops, the sound becomes more harmonically rich. Eddie recreated this by plugging his Marshall into a variac set to 89 volts (bias at full). You can sound "like Eddie" in many ways, but the brown sound is one thing.

  • ou are right michaeljamsmith, I agree with you. I think I better change my Title for this video. How to sound like Eddie Van Halen using stompboxes. I'm just sharing this video so everyone especially the young generation can duplicate and copy the great sound of Van Halen in there own home without spending a lot of money for the equipments that Eddie uses. The Cruch Box that I use has a distinct effect that sounds similar to the Marshalls. Thank you for the information and for dropping by.

  • I think you could get rid of all the effects but the evh ones.Get a ten band mxr eq and if your using a line 6 spyder or a marshall jcm 800 you will get the real sound. I had Chris Holmes from WASP stay with me and since he's buddies with Eddie he woulg give him his old marshalls and I would set everything on ten and just jam and it was beautiful! I would get goose bumps, but thats how I learned about how his set up worked.
