To me aswell, even though I, as a swede who grew up with this mentality (it exists in our family and in general many old people live by it).
the good things about this mentality would be: I have, from what i know, never made any enemies. In 5th grade i got praised by the teachers for defending a victim of bullying, I simply didnt see any difference between him and all other kids.
The bad thing would be that i fucking hate braggers.

i agree on that. i always keep the Jante Law in the back of my head. it actually makes people more likable, since they're not boasting. you shouldn't live by it, but you sure as hell shouldn't forget it either.

When you encounter people on the Internet from countries that does not follow this law, they tend to be more arrogant than others, in my opinion.
