this lens has no VR, so when you hold the sutter when in AFC mode, in a very little shake or movement of your hand, your camera will detect it and refocus to the new point where the spot for focusing is in. you should give credit to the lens and camera for being accurate with focusing.

@Xyb3rTeCh With a reply like that you don't know cameras at all...lol stick to your P&S camera owner...

that is normal. and this is the reason why nikon sucks big time

Mine 24-70mm does the same in AF-C mode. That's normal. It is absolutely fine in AF-A and AF-S modes.

I'm having the same issue with my new 24-70 f/2.8 ! I'm also returning it to the dealer. I havent' paid for it yet, and will not if they don't replace it first...

my Nikkor 24-70 doesn't have this sound when AF is on
Yeah I just returned it for a refund and ended up going with the 70-200 first. I should be ordering the 24-70 again in a few months when I have some income again. Hopefully things will be better this time around. The price has dropped since I first purchased this lens by about $100 too.
