This video really makes me a believer of Janice. She is really exciting and should be a great Brunhilde next month. She sounds a little like Varnay, her teacher.
Baird's voice is a bit on the heavier, unrulier side of the dramatic soprano voice, but she's got the technique to control it ideally. It seems to be a very ample, burnished sound, and this is THE voice the Dyer's Wife needs. Her ease both in the top and in the bottom is truly mesmerizing. A great interpretation, and I'm glad to see a heavy dramatic voice well controlled and used in our days!
She is wonderful. I just saw her in Vienna State Opera as Elektra last month it was beautiful and moving. Wonderful singing and acting

You must also give credit to her late father who was a master voice instructor in NYC. He gave her the foundation for her powerful voice.

A lot of European directors actually hate opera and impose their own "visions" on a production with no regard to compositional intent.
