In this Cell simulation, students in a PLTW CIM class were tasked with designing, building, and automating a manufacturing cell in simulation. Students worked in groups of two or three, and used RIOS software to control the Lynxmotion robotic arms, and RoboPro to run the fischertechniks. Some cells contain pneumatics, while others use electronics for simulation. Handshaking between the fischertechniks and the robots was accomplished with simple 5v relays.
The goals of the project were to be efficient, accurate, and to learn how machines communicate in manufacturing processes.
