Jeff J. at Hanson913 was nice enough to allow me to fiddle around with the beautiful silent 8mm film he shot from the front row of the Sam Houston Colosium on Aug. 2nd 1975. This is 2nd generation video. (Look at that color will ya?) I synced it with audio recorded in Providence RI on March 6th 75. 6 months apart, which caused a little difficulty but I did my best. Jeff also agreed to let me post a bit of it. To see the whole thing, go to http://www.youtube.com/user/hanson913 If you've already been there done that, I apologize for getting you over here for a repeat, but what the hell...It's a Tull show I saw "more than a couple of times", and I don't mind looking again and again!
Thanks again Jeff!
And thanks for stopping in.

@jackHNv You're right about Martin. Think about the song Conundrum and that other song called "Pequeno Solo" that is on You Tube. It's like Martin just whipped out these genius riffs that were used once and tossed in the trash bin like a piece of toilet paper.

@BARRIEMOREBARLOW Doane Perry is a fantastic drummer, I do prefer Barlow but Doane'e the best Tull have had apart from him.
Martin Barre is a better player now than he ever was, but Ian's voice is shot to ribbons, you're right - they don't sound as good now as in their heyday but they're old men now, at least we still have the chance to see them live.

@jackHNv I've met Doane Perry. I like Doane. He got me backstage passes. But Doane cannot even carry Barriemore's shoes. I'm sorry. The modern day Tull is just a shell.

@Exzeluke Yeah, I saw Tull last year, when they played We Used To Know from the Stand Up album, Ian said Tull played it as an encore on the tour with The Eagles, a couple of years later Hotel California was released - which has exactly the same chord progression as We Used To Know!

I saw them perform in Houston in the 70s. I expected to see a somewhat sedate group with a flute player. BOY was I blown away. They came onstage and played Thick as a Brick for about TWENTY minutes, complete with funny antics, raunchy flute gestures and all-out energy. People went crazy! They took about one breath after this, then Ian quietly says and now for our second number. Brought the house down.
And the opening support band was none other than The Eagles.
THANK YOU for this video.

I just had to view this video again.
AMAZING.
Thanks Jeff for having such great filming skills back in 1975.
And thanks Darin for having such synching skills in 2009.
Best Tull footage of the whole damn Progressive Era.

WOW! Talk about a blast from the past! I sat
front row for this very show (seat B-1-7) and
this is the next best thing to travelling in time!
What a fantastic job of sound and editing.
Thanks Jeff and Darin for bringing this dusty
gem back to life! Keep up the good work!

Darin, I love the video and your entire site. Your work best captures the essence of Tull during their progressive best of 1972-75. You da man!!

Not bad filming for a 17-year-old kid (Jeff) in Houston with just his home 8mm movie camera.
Best close-up footage of Tull during that era. Thanks Darin for posting this.
