I posted a video earlier showing the evils of the Wilkinson VS100 whammy bar. Luckily I recieved a lot of responces and was able find a way to fix it. So here it is.

Also, if you're interested in getting a Floyd arm, here's a great place to look.

  • Is the Wilkinson trem ok as far as holding tune etc? really worried about what to purchase on my bolt when I order.

Very nice vid, I never considered this approach.

  • @smooretogo Thanks. As long as the nut is cut right and the tuners are quality, it stays in tune almost as well as my floyds.

  • Can you "pull up" on this bridge a la Jeff Beck style? Thanks.

  • @TheEarthBlues2 Yes you can, but if mount it more flush then no. Basically it can be setup just like a regular strat.

  • @taez555 Thanks. Just wondering because I've read Callaham bridges go out of tune when you pull up. Thanks a lot, I like you am trying to build my own strat. Can I ask why you went with the Planet Waves turners instead of say Sperzel or Fender/Schaller? Just wondering if you have experience with either of those or something.

  • @TheEarthBlues2 Honestly I just got them because they were best ones Warmoth sells. :-) I have all different tuners on my guitars and don't really have a preference. As long as they're not super cheap you're fine. Grovers, Sperzels, Schaller, PW... etc.... They're all going to stay in tune well. For this guitar all I really needed was the locking tuners and I figured I'd give the Planet Waves a shot.

  • Awesome and cheap solution. Nice job and thank you very much for the upload.

  • @TheEarthBlues2 Staying in tune or not is just a matter of setup - I can push my unmodified six-screw vintage tremolo to both extremes and it stays in tune. But changing strings takes longer as I tune all strings to pitch, shake the bar well, retune and repeat until it stays in tune (usually three times).

  • @taez555 Thanks for the info.

  • @MattCouch999 Yes, you can set it flush. It's actually a pretty common way of setting up the Wiklinson. Basically whatever way you want it setup, you can set it.
