how does the cap have 3/4 in threads if you just drilled it. ?

@jojojosmart I drilled out the center of the cap. The outer edges are already threaded by the factory for an adapter. I hope this helps.

Great projects. Thanks. Any idea if they could be combined? That is, if the barrell(s) were painted black and put into a solar heat box, would they work for a tank-system solar hot water collector?

I'm thinking about doing a batch solar water heater, but I'll most likely use a water heater core for the storage tank. It can hold up under very hot temps.
