Un triangulo amoroso. Tenemos a Leonard escribiendo una carta a un (ex) amigo o hermano explicandole que lo ha perdonado y lo echa de menos. Ese "ladron" quien ahora vive apartado de la civilizacion y lejos de Cohen y su mujer Jane, sera bienvenido si viene a visitarlo a el o a Jane. Cohen le dice que ya no se siente posesivo hacia ella y mas aun que esta feliz de que ese hombre le haya dado una felicidad a Jane que el mismo Cohen no habia podido darle. Tambien recuerda que aquella infidelidad cambio a Jane y que cuando volvio a su marido, ella volvio liberada emocionalmente y sexualmente.

A love triangle. We have Leonard writing to an (ex) friend or brother trying to be at peace with him. This is because the "gipsy thief" (a metaphor for the man who took his woman) had run away physically and emotionally from Cohen and his wife Jane. Cohen tells his brother/friend/enemy that he now feels at peace with himself, he no longer feels possessive towards Jane - that's why he reassures the thief that "your enemy (Cohen) is sleeping". Still the memories flood back to the time when Jane left him for the other man and the great changes that occurred with it. First of all the thief gave Jane happiness that Cohen was not able to give her. And also that Jane eventually came back but as an emotionally and sexually liberated woman.

Lo primero que nos dice L. Cohen (asi firma al final) es que esta escribiendo la carta a las 4 de la mañana (It’s 4 in the morning...)

Ah, the last time we saw you/ Ah, la ultima vez que te vimos ("te vimos" significa ambos - Cohen y Jane).

Para mi no puede estar mas claro! Si Jane se despierta y le habla a Cohen a las 4 de la madrugada es evidente que estan juntos. Ademas dice que aunque volvio DIFERENTE (liberada, NO DOMESTICADA, etc) igual volvio.

@kalanchito la historia es autobiográfica según cuenta Cohen en un libro, pero aunque Cohen firma la carta como si fuera el esposo, en realidad fue el amante del impermeable. De ahí viene la confusión: la persona real Cohen nunca convivió maritalmente con esa Jane. Lo que si parece claro es que Jane y su esposo continuaron con el matrimonio (aunque desde una perspectiva mas liberal).

Gracias por traducir la letra. Pero hay algo que falta en la descripción. Tal como cuenta en un libro biográfico, en realidad Cohen fue el amante y no el esposo. Su genial truco lírico es ponerse en los zapatos del esposo y firmar la carta como Cohen. Creo que pretende sugerir que los tres traspasaron las fronteras de la identidad individual para formar el trío. Al menos asi me gusta interpretarlo.
