South Lakes High School's glee club "Limited Edition" performs "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey and accepts the 2011 AAPD award for diversity and inclusion in the arts.

Tony Coelho: Across the nation the "Glee effect" has taken hold. Before members of the fictional "New Directions" glee club at William McKinley first appeared on our television screens, there were roughly 200 glee clubs in our high schools all across the country. In less than two years of Glee on the air, there are now an estimated 600 glee clubs. A poll conducted by Harris Interactive in September of last year found music themed shows such as Glee generated new interest in music programs among students between age 8-18. The poll found that 31% of the 1,800 students surveyed wanted to participate in school music activities.

Students who never would have considered utilizing their gifts of song and dance are now finding new ways of expression through those choirs and musical programs including, more importantly, our nation's students with disabilities. We are fortunate tonight, to have one of these real live glee clubs joining us, inclusive of students both with and without disabilities. It's my honor to introduce the members of the nationally ranked and award winning "Limited Edition" from Reston, Virginia. Ladies and gentlemen, performing a Glee number arrangement, under the direction of Ms. Rita Gigliotti, please welcome "Limited Edition!"

Singing:
Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere

Just a city boy
Born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere

A singer in a smoky room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice just one more time

Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people

Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlight people

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people

Helena Berger: Now I have the pleasure of presenting the 2011 AAPD award for diversity and inclusion to the choral director Rita Gigliotti and the principal Bruce Butler of South Lake High School. And David Hale and I, we had the pleasure of meeting Rita and Bruce and the "Limited Edition" on a couple of occasions and as you can tell, they not only sing incredibly well, but they are the nicest bunch of high school students I have ever, ever, ever met. So I just want to give them one more round of applause... And again we're presenting the 2011 award for diversity and inclusion in the arts to the choral program of South Lakes High School in Reston, Virginia.

Tony Coelho: Last night I promoted him to superintendent and he loved it. I don't know what that meant. Thank you very much.
