Whomever says the lyrics lack depth is sadly mistaken, it is about lacking the ability to help someone in need(theme of song) and when my friend Allan Namit comitted suicide this song was what helped me threw the pain, all of DT's music are masterpeaces plain and simple. it makes me wonder why shit like akon can have so much more sucess that them, whe their lyrical content has no emotion,soul or point.

Dream theater does'nt care about fame, they put time and effort into there songs, making it sound original and creative. thats why i like them.

My ex boyfriend told me that this song reminded him of me.

When I heard it, I understood why.

After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, I experienced a number of episodes where I felt as if I was losing my mind. It was almost as if I was suffering from a severe case of bipolar disorder.

I still deal with these episodes from time to time. Thankfully, I found someone who can stand by my side despite my mental state of mine.

Beautiful song, none the less.

Octavarium is the most amazing thing I've ever heard and really they pushed the boundaries on that song but Vacant for simplicity's sake is amazing in its own right :)

Vacant is by far one of the best lyrical songs DT has ever put out. The masterful lyrics along with the flowing piano and the simplicity of the cello and violin melodies make Vacant a DT masterpiece
