Nov 2007- Members of the University of North Dakota greek community attended a party hosted by the local chapter of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Some of the students at the party chose to wear Native American costumes, many of which were obviously intended to make fun of traditional Native American clothing and culture. The photos are especially controversial, because UND has been facing pressure to change their "Fighting Sioux" athletic logo to something not related to Native Americans. UND's main argument towards keeping the logo is their claim that it is used 100% respectfully, and that not even in the student body is there anything greatly to the contrary

  • It's all perspective.. where your from and who lives around you. It's easy to dismiss whether something is offensive or just for fun, what we as a society need to be continuesly aware of is how our actions effect our sisters and brothers of Mother Earth. We're all different and that's what we should celebrate! Be thoughtful and courteous... not only in the way your mind portrays other societies and cultures, but also for the people who don't know better. It's better to educate than hate.. :)

  • so its ok if it is a cute little kid with a lisp and they are learning about thanksgiving? please! this is not racism. this is college kids having a party and if anyone is truly offended by it then you need to grow up. they arent wearing regalia from religious events, education is a great idea but advocate for that not more "politically correct" bullshit.

  • They were at a costume party not trying to emulate historic native american attire. I don't see a doctor, construction worker or anyone else getting upset every time someone dresses in a costume depicting them. And if ANYONE should be upset, it's the naughty nurses getting a bad rep. ;)

  • @eatmynastysnatch you need to learn your history. My people always smiled and had a good time. Its the stereotype of Natives that don't smile or have fun. Lol this shit they did is stupid I think my next college party we'll dress up like nerdy white kids and take a bunch of pictures as we have a circle jerk watching porn.

  • you're just a geed thats pissed you didnt get a bid

  • it's a shame

  • people get too sensitive about things.young kids having fun no harm

  • wow its college...needless to say they were having fun, don't you guys remember your college days? It's not disrespect they were just trying to have a good time....Fighting Sioux forever!! :)
